The Basics of Noise-Cancelation
Every sound you hear is a wave traveling through the air. These waves have peaks (high points) and troughs (low points). Noise-canceling headphones use a clever trick to eliminate unwanted sounds: they create an opposite sound wave, called anti-noise, to cancel out the original sound.
This process is known as destructive interference, where two opposite waves meet and effectively cancel each other out. As a result, the unwanted noise disappears, leaving you with a quieter environment to enjoy your music or focus on your tasks.
